Some fantastic work from RCMP officers likely saved the lives of a West Kelowna man and his dog.
Shortly before 8 pm on Wednesday, a man called the West Kelowna RCMP with concerns about the health of his father, who had just moved into a new home.
However, he couldn’t remember the address or the area of his father’s new residence.
“A frontline officer of the West Kelowna RCMP was able to call and speak with the father, who seemed to be confused and in distress,” said an RCMP release.
“He also wasn’t able to remember his address, but told police that he lived on Old Okanagan Highway and was able to provide a description of his truck.”
Officers jumped into action and flooded the area to search for the man’s truck, which they were fortunately able to finally find in the 2400 block of Old Okanagan Highway.
They found the man inside and he was transported to Kelowna General Hospital, where it was discovered that he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and that his dog was still in the house.
Officers rushed back to the home and were able to rescue the dog from inside.
The animal was also showing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
“The responding officers acted quickly to locate this man and get him medical assistance,” explained Sgt. Joel Glen.
“This incident highlights the importance of ensuring that your residence has carbon monoxide detectors and that they are functioning properly.”
After the incident, the West Kelowna Fire Department was able to determine that the furnace was the cause of the carbon monoxide and it’s now being dealt with.
