West Kelowna’s Mission Hill Winery is in pretty solid company on a recent list released by Architectural Digest.

The winery is one of 19 from around the world featured for it’s beautiful design.

“In recent years, more and more of the best vineyards have sought to make a statement not just with their wines but with the design of their facilities,” says the article.

“That means wineries are no longer mere side trips en route to the main attraction - they’ve become destinations in their own right.”

Mission Hill is definitely a destination and a very popular stop on any wine tour that rolls through West Kelowna.

It’s also one of the Central Okanagan’s more popular concert venues, as their outdoor amphitheatre has recently hosted names like Sheryl Crow, Michael Bolton, Melissa Etheridge, Jewel and many more.

The Mission Hill Family Estate purchased the abandoned Mission Hill estate in 1981 and it was rebuilt by Olson Kundig Architects around the turn of the century.

They were commissioned to do the work in 1996 and it was completed in 2002, the centrepiece and focal point being the 12-story, 85 foot high bell tower.

Architectural Design’s list includes wineries from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, California and more and you can read the entire article by clicking this link.
