A new pizzeria opened in West Kelowna earlier this month with a young Okanagan entrepreneur making his restaurant debut while serving his favourite food.
Dax Guest-Ross inherited the restaurant reins from his mother, Patricia Guest, who had previously owned L’Oven out of the same building.
The 20-year-old entrepreneur made a deal with his parents and the landlord to take over the space and present Pizzamoreh to the West Kelowna eatery scene, officially opening the restaurant on Feb. 9.
“In Italian, “amore” stands for love and then I added the ‘H’ on it so people would pronounce it right –– and it puts a Canadian spin on it,” Guest-Ross explained.
“Pizzamoreh is just like the love for pizza plus the Canadian accent,” he laughed.
He explained that his love for pizza, and their personal recipe for the best pizza, led him to create his restaurant based around the tasty pies.
"I was making pizza when I was little all the time, I always loved pizza and I always loved making pizza, so it was kind of an easy transition to start a business as Pizzamoreh” explained Guest-Ross.
“Everybody loved my mom's food, so, it was always labelled ‘the best food ever,’ because it was wholesome, quality food.”
In the short time since they have opened, Guest-Ross said they have already started to develop some fan favourites for their wood-fired Italian-style pizzas: the “After Biggie,” the “Ogopogo,” the “Smoky Blue” and their “Apple Pie” dessert pizza.
Yet, Pizzamoreh’s arguably biggest highlight is its two-foot long pizza slice.
Go grab the tape measure. Yes, it is long.
Guest-Ross named the extraordinarily large pizza slice the “Full Send,” which will feed the customers who, like him, have an extraordinary appetite.
Pizzamoreh is currently open Wednesday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 2565 Main St. West in West Kelowna. The eatery doesn’t currently deliver, but after a successful trial run on Saturday, Guest-Ross is considering bringing in a delivery driver.
To his potential customers, Guest-Ross said, "Come in, we have great pizza. It is all freshly made, all of the sauces are made in house.”
