The RCMP are searching for a suspect after what they’re calling an attempted child abduction in West Kelowna.

Police say an 11-year-old girl was walking along Cougar Road around 3:50 pm on Wednesday when she was approached by a man driving a blue four-door sedan with rusted rims and squeaky brakes.

From the driver’s seat, the man pointed to the backseat, encouraging the young girl to get inside his vehicle, but the child wisely refused and ran home.

The suspect is described as tanned and possibly bald with a heavier build, bearded chin and was last seen wearing small circular silver glasses.

It’s estimated that he’s in his mid 40s.

Police continue to investigate and canvass the area around Cougar Road and Grizzly Road for any kind of surveillance footage.

Anyone with information about this attempted abduction is urged to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.

You can also report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
