(Update-10:30 p.m.): An RCMP officer actively searching for a missing person near downtown West Kelowna spotted the elderly man at the base of a small embankment in need of medical assistance.

Just over three hours after an elderly male walked away from his property in the 3600 block of Old Okanagan Highway, police spotted the missing man behind the Westbank Museum on Pamela Road.

“Due to the frigid outdoor temperatures, combined with the missing man’s health conditions, our officers were very concerned for his health and overall well being,” said Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey.

The missing male, who suffered what appeared to be relatively minor injuries and displayed symptoms of exposure to the elements, has since been transported to the hospital by BC Ambulance Service for full medical assessment and treatment.

(ORIGINAL-9:00 p.m.): West Kelowna RCMP has called for added support of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) to assist in the search for a missing elderly man.

On December 7th at approximately 6:00 p.m., Police received a report of the missing man. Al Campbell was last seen 30 minutes prior, walking away from a property in the 3600 block of the Old Okanagan Highway. He was making his way to the Royal Bank of Canada on Gosset Road when he went missing.

“It is important for the public to know that Al Campbell suffers from a medical condition which may cause him to appear confused or disoriented,” said Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey. "Numerous officers have been searching the area, as they await the arrival and support from volunteer search and rescue crews.”

Campbell has been described to police as a short Caucasian male in his 80's with white hair and eyeglasses. Police don't believe Campbell was properly dressed for the elements as he was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket with a fur hood, and brown corduroy pants.

Anyone with information on Campbell's whereabouts is urged to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
