(UPDATE: Aug. 25 @ 7:30 pm) - Great news has come out of the story of one man's plea to locate his beloved vintage ride.

Byron C received a call from West Kelowna RCMP just after 6 pm on Sunday night, notifying him that his 1974 Volkswagen Beetle that was stolen earlier this weekend, had been found.

According to Byron, his treasured car was found by officers on Orlin Road in West Kelowna, just off of Old Okanagan Highway where the bug was spotted on Saturday afternoon.

The priceless vehicle was returned intact, however, it did receive some minor damage and will need to undergo repairs.

"I feel very appreciative of the West Kelowna RCMP, they located my little baby and now it's home," said Byron.

(Original Story: Aug. 25 @ 5:30 pm) - A resident in Rose Valley is making a plea to members of the public who may have information on the whereabouts of his prized Volkswagen Beetle.

Byron C of West Kelowna, was in his driveway at approximately 5 pm Friday evening putting the finishing touches on his recently restored 1974 red Beetle, when his wife arrived home and the pair went indoors for the remainder of the night.

According to Byron, his wife received a call from RCMP at 11 am on Saturday morning, asking if he was out in West Kelowna driving his car. When his wife said no, the couple was made aware that the beloved Beetle had been stolen.

“They asked us if the car was in the driveway and we both rushed out to see if it was still there, but it wasn’t,” Byron told NowMedia. “That is how we found out it was taken,” he added.

Mounties proceeded to tell Byron that the antique car had been spotted in the possession of individuals who were allegedly caught stealing alcohol from the BC Liquor Store on Dobbin Road earlier that day.

“After it was reported by staff, the police said they were able to track down the car along Old Okanagan Highway, but that the drivers had somehow managed to evade them,” said Byron.

With the antique car still unaccounted for, Byron is hoping community members can help track it down by submitting tips to the West Kelowna RCMP if it is seen again.

“That car is my baby,” he said. Adding that he has been restoring it for the last four years and just added in a brand new motor and sound system.

Those with information on the car's whereabouts are asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP non-emergency line at 250-768-2880.

NowMedia has reached out to the RCMP for more information and will update the story as it becomes available.
