(UPDATE: May 26 @ 12:10 pm) - The City of West Kelowna has partially rescinded the water quality advisory that was in place for the Rose Valley-Lakeview water system.

"Turbidity in Rose Valley Reservoir has improved, meaning the system-wide Water Quality Advisory that was issued on April 3 can now be rescinded from all areas of the Rose Valley-Lakeview water system, other than those specific zones where watermain flushing is continuing," the City explained.

Unfortunately for people in the West Kelowna Business Park and Boucherie Centre areas, which is Zone 2, the water quality advisory will remain in place over the next several weeks.

(Original story: April 3 @ 3 pm) - The City of West Kelowna has issued a water quality advisory for the Lakeview-Rose Valley Water Service area due to an increase in turbidity.

An increase in turbidity effects the performance of chlorine disinfection because of the presence of bacteria and other microorganisms.

“Water Main flushing is continuing and the Isolated Precautionary Water Quality Advisory in Zone 1 has been upgraded to a Water Quality Advisory due to the Rose Valley Reservoir turbidity being experienced system wide,” says the city.

“City crews are continuing to flush water mains during this time working between 7:30 am and 4 pm.”

Water service will not be interrupted, but customers may notice a reduction in water pressure and should avoid using appliances that need large amounts of water.

Under the water quality advisory, children, the elderly and those with weakened immunity must use water brought to a rolling boil for one minute or more, or seek an alternative source of water, says the city.

This includes using water for brushing teeth, drinking, making baby formula and ice, preparing food and beverages and washing fruits and vegetables.

A bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Road is available to provide a safe alternative for drinking water.

People are reminded to bring their own clean bottle for filling.
