(UPDATE: Aug. 14 @ 3 pm) - After one month, the City of West Kelowna has rescinded the water quality advisory put in place for the Lakeview/Rose Valley water system.
It was put into place on July 15 due to high turbidity registering at the reservoir, which the reservoir consultant says is being caused by an algal bloom.
(Original story: July 15 @ 5 pm) - One of West Kelowna’s largest water systems is back under a water quality advisory (WQA).
The WQA was issued for the Lakeview/Rose Valley water system and is due to high turbidity registering at the reservoir, which the reservoir consultant says is being caused by an algal bloom.
As a result, the performance of the chlorine disinfection process is likely affected.
The City of West Kelowna, in consultation with Interior Health, is issuing a Water Quality Advisory for the Lakeview/Rose Valley System effective immediately and until further notice, due to high turbidity.

“The elderly and those with weakened immunity must use water brought to a rolling boil for one minute or more, or seek an alternative safe source, for brushing teeth, drinking, making baby formula and ice, preparing food and beverages and washing fruits and vegetables,” says a release from the City of West Kelowna.
In addition, a safe source of water is available for free at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads.
Residents are asked to bring clean bottles for filling.
