A West Kelowna clinic is in a position to accept an extra 5,000 new patients after recruiting four new doctors.

Westside Medical Clinic – which is just off Hwy 97, on Stevens Rd – will be taking on three male and one female doctor (a women’s health specialist).

The first will arrive before Christmas.

The clinic hopes the new doctors will help increase the number of people in the area with a family doctor.

“Many people put off finding a family physician until they are in a health crisis,” Westside Medical physician Dr. Stefan Milanovic explained.

“If people would prioritize their healthcare like they prioritize their car care, we would all be living healthier.”

Family doctors are often better able to treat patients because they know their medical history and can spend more time assessing them.

Waiting times tend to be shorter for patients with family doctors, while referrals to specialists can also be quicker.

Clinic director Vicky Hunt said her recruitment strategy has been “simple.”

“Build a state-of-the-art clinic in a central location and start contacting the best physicians we can find,” she explained.
