West Kelownians are in line for some relief after the city’s council approved a decrease in the proposed 2021 tax rate.

It will now be 4.05% rather than 4.75%.

The 4.05% rate includes a new 1% infrastructure tax for improvements to roads, drainage and transportation valued at $40.8 million.

Council said the decrease was made possible by “reductions and amended supplemental requests through operational efficiencies” in the 2021 financial plan.

The plan will be officially adopted later in the year.

Last year, the council reduced its planned tax increase from 4.8% to 2.8% in a bid to provide relief to residents amid the COVID-19 crisis.
