Fire ripped through a home in the Rose Valley area of West Kelowna on Thursday.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one home, but that home suffered some serious damage.

Hayden Smith lives in that home, alongside his mother, step-father, sister and his sister’s boyfriend, but now they’ve been left in a very bad spot.

The home is insured, but that’s not an instant solution to their woes and a lot of that type of help is currently backed up due to the pandemic.

As a result, the family has started a GoFundMe to collect some much needed funds to get them through this difficult time.

“During this time with COVID-19 and everything on delay, we are asking for help,” wrote Smith, who added on Facebook that he only has a pair of shoes, sweatpants, a t-shirt and phone to his name.

“We lost all (of) our belongings, including the stuff we use to go to work.”

The original GoFundMe target was $5,000, but that’s since been upped to $10,000 today.

So far, more than $4,000 has been raised for Smith and his family.
