West Kelowna’s FireSmart Family Day is this Saturday.

The community is invited to join West Kelowna Fire Rescue firefighters, staff and special guests for free activities and refreshments on May 27 from 11 am to 2 pm at Fire Hall 31.

Activities include playing games in the kid zone, meeting Sparky the fire dog, Ember the FireSmart fox and local firefighters, spraying a firehose and exploring engines and equipment on display.

Attendees will learn about emergency preparedness, the FireSmart program and how to protect their home from wildfires.

Those who attend are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank.

To accommodate the event, the City will close Old Okanagan Highway between Drought Road and Apollo Road on May 27 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Access to all area businesses and residences will be maintained.

The public is asked to respect crews, slow down in cone zones and maintain posted speeds along detour routes, which include Brown, Drought and Gossett Roads.

Fire Hall 31 is located at 3651 Old Okanagan Highway.
