The Sunnyside/Pritchard and West Kelowna Estates water systems remains on water quality advisories.
(Original story: May 19 @ 10:15 am) - The City of West Kelowna has issued a water quality advisory for the Lakeview/Rose Valley System.
It is effective until further notice, the city explained, and has been prompted by high levels of turbidity.
The new advisory adds to separate ones issued for the West Kelowna Estates and Sunnyside/Pritchard systems.
According to the city’s reservoir consultant, an algal bloom has caused the turbidity.
The algae is not harmful to humans but the increased turbidity can mean bacteria, viruses and organisms can attach themselves to particles in the water.
“Children, the elderly and those with weakened immunity must use water brought to a rolling boil for one minute or more, or seek an alternative safe source, for brushing teeth, drinking, making baby formula and ice, preparing food and beverages and washing fruits and vegetables,” the city explained.
“A safe alternate source of water is available at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. The water is free throughout the duration of the Water Quality Advisories. Please bring clean bottles for filling.”
A touch-free system has been installed to enable safe use during the pandemic.
