A popular West Kelowna sports store is shutting its doors as the company closes for good.

Wholesale Sports announced on Thursday that it would orderly wind down and eventually close all 12 of its retail locations across Western Canada.

The inventory liquidation sales begin on Friday and will be managed through Gordon Brothers, an industry-leading inventory asset management specialist.

“There were numerous external factors that led to this decision including an increasingly competitive environment, the continued shift to on-line purchases and an overall slowing of consumer discretionary spending as a whole, including the outdoor industry,” said Carol Kitchen, president of Wholesale Sports’ parent company.

"We thoroughly appreciate the loyalty from both our customers and Wholesale Sports employees and wish to sincerely thank each of them for their support and service over the years.”

The liquidation sale will last until December 28th and no new online purchases will be processed after 2 p.m. on Friday.

A full list of closing locations and addresses can be found on the Wholesale Sports website, but it does include the West Kelowna location.
