All evacuation alerts lifted in TNRD and CRD

The Elephant Hill wildfire is no longer considered a threat to any properties in the Thompson-Nicola and Cariboo. Both the Thompson Nicola Regional District and Cariboo Regional District today lifted all remaining evacuation alerts, bringing to an end emergency efforts that began on July 7th.

An evacuation order, the last in the CRD, was in place along the Highway 24 corridor until last Saturday, September 16th, when it was downgraded to an alert. In the TNRD, evacuation orders for Hihium Lake, Pressy Lake and Young Lake areas were rescinded on September 15th. All remaining evacuation orders in the TNRD were lifted on September 17th. Properties remained under evacuation alert until today.

The Elephant Hill wildfire currently spans 192,725 hectares and is now 85% contained. The BC Wildfire Service said crews continue to make progress, aided by cooler temperatures. There has been no additional growth or change to the fire perimeter this week.

With the recent progress on the fire, crews have been scaled back to 437 firefighters, 34 pieces of heavy equipment and three helicopters.
