BC Wildfire has confirmed that the wildfire that has forced the closure of Highway 97 is estimated at two hectares in size.

The fire is burning in steep terrain, but BC Wildfire says that luckily they have been seeing minimal fire activity.

They have airtankers and one helicopter responding to the blaze.

The West Kelowna RCMP are actively assisting government agencies with the emergency closure of Highway 97 through Peachland.

Fire crews are responding to a number of spot fires in the Okanagan and Similkameen, and are using all available resources from across the province in firefighting efforts.
