(Update: July 29 1:47 pm) - As of today, Canada Post has restored full mail delivery to Kelowna.

Other areas are not as lucky, as poor air quality, caused by smoke from wildfires continues to impact the Okanagan.

The red service alert means that delivery agents will not be sent out as air quality conditions have made it unsafe.

An update to suspended deliveries is now in place for Kaleden, Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Osoyoos, Penticton.

A full update to interrupted deliveries can be found here.

(Original Story: July 28 11:09 am) - Canada Post has suspended deliveries in Kelowna, Penticton and Oliver today.

The Crown corporation said it has declared a red service alert due to wildfire smoke.

It explained that “air quality conditions have made it unsafe” for its staff.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority,” Canada Post explained.

The corporation added: “We continue to assess the situation and delivery will resume once it is deemed safe to do so.”

A special air statement is in effect across the Okanagan Valley.

Environment Canada warned: “Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath.

“Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.”
