Heat warnings have been issued once again for parts of the BC Interior.

Environment Canada said the Okanagan, South Thompson, North Thompson, Kootenays and Boundary Country are among the areas affected.

“A heat wave less aggressive than the previous historic heat wave will affect parts of the BC Interior,” the agency explained.

Daytime highs are expected to range between 35ºC and 38ºC, with overnight lows as high as 18ºC.

Environment Canada said the heat wave is predicted to last from Monday to Wednesday.

The agency warned: “Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

“Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.”

Environment Canada reminded residents that it issues heat warnings when “very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses.”

The heat warning comes at an unfortunate time for the province, with over 300 fires burning amid record dryness.

The fire danger rating across much of the Interior is already at “very high” or “extreme.”

Today’s Buildup Index (how much fuel is on the ground ready to combust), meanwhile, is at its highest level across most of BC.
