Kelowna continues to live with the consequences of fires raging down south.
But NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English said the possibility remains of more salubrious weekend air.
“With little change in the weather pattern, the smoke will continue to stay for another couple of days,” she explained.
“Daytime highs will remain in the low to mid 20s.”
She added: “There is hope for some clearing this weekend when a weather system rolls through our region.”
An Environment Canada air quality statement remains in effect across the southern half of BC.
But the agency said the air has “improved considerably” over recent days.
“Winds from the south are expected to continue to transport smoke north over the next 24-48 hours until the upper low off the south coast moves onshore over the weekend,” Environment Canada explained last night.
“Smoke will be visible aloft throughout the lower half of the province.”
According to the Air Quality Health Index this morning, the Central Okanagan is now at level 6 on the scale – meaning the air poses a moderate risk to health.
It is forecast to reach a maximum of 10+ (the worst level) on the scale today, however.
