A wildfire burning in the southwest corner of the Kamloops Fire Centre continues to grow.

According to Fire Information Officer Gagan Lidhran, the Solco Creek blaze has not reached 13.8 hectares in size. It is currently classified as "out of control.

"The Solco Creek wildfire, located approximately 27 kilometres northeast of Oliver, is classified as out of control," said Lidhran. "The fire is sized at approximately 13.8 hectares at this time."

Lidhran mentioned that 41 firefighters, along with loads of equipment, were combatting the blaze.

"We have 41 personnel that are working to establish control lines on the site today, and they're being supported by three helicopters and one piece of heavy equipment. No structures are threatened at this time."

In addition to this fire, BC Wildfire Service crews are monitoring 15 spot fires around the centre caused by Friday's lightning storms. Those incidents have resulted in no fires of note so far.

NowMedia will update the story when more information is available.
