(UPDATE: June 18 @ 6:20 a.m.) - The minor grass fire that sparked in West Kelowna on Sunday night appears to be out.
Jason Brolund, Fire Chief for West Kelowna Fire Rescue, told KelownaNow on Sunday that the small fire would be mopped up by the end of the night.
Any smoke in the area is gone and it appears as though Brolund's prediction was correct.
KelownaNow is working on confirming that news this morning.
(Original story: June 17 @ 8 p.m.) - West Kelowna fire crews were dispatched to a sighting of smoke spotted north of Glenrosa at approximately 6:15 p.m. Sunday night and have arrived on site.
B.C. Wildfire sent in an initial attack crew and was on scene shortly before the arrival of West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR).
The fire is outside of West Kelowna Fire Department's jurisdiction, but four West Kelowna fire crews are currently assisting B.C. Wildfire in suppressing the fire. Eight more West Kelowna crew are standing by.
The fire is estimated to be 30 feet by 30 feet and is "well away from any residential structures at this point in time," stated Jason Brolund, Fire Chief for WKFR, adding that the fire was a 30 to 45-minute hike from the nearest road.
Brolund added that he expects the fire to be out before dark.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
