What’s stopping you from cycling to work?

It’s good for the environment, increases fitness and beats sitting in rush hour traffic.

However, with Kelowna's hot summers, cycling 20 minutes to work can leave an employee looking disheveled and that's enough to deter many professionals.

“It was a classic case of having a problem and creating a solution,” said Jeremy West, founder of 6 AM Workshirts. “As a manager at Cactus Club, I wear a suit and work in very close quarters to people and their food, but I also love cycling to work.”

Fusing the sweat-wicking technology of cycling jerseys with the professional look of a dress shirt, which separates a 6 AM Workshirt and allows the commuter to arrive at work looking fresh.

“I bought a Reebok athletic jersey from Winners, grabbed one of my dress shirts and took it to a tailor and told him about my idea,” explained West “He kind of laughed and suggested I make a custom shirt.”

With the concept in place, West began the process of aligning his philosophies with a long-term business plan and the goal of helping to change the general consumer's mindset.

"I truly believe that every small action you take can lead to greater change," said West. "Something as simple as biking to work can create change and so can manufacturing and buying locally."

While it would be more economical to outsource materials and labour overseas, 6 AM Workshirts are made in Canada with materials that minimize waste.

"I've created a high-quality product that resists sweat, wrinkles and can replace three or four dress shirts," explained West. "I want to connect with a demographic that is excited to use an innovative, durable product that is also reducing their carbon footprint in different ways."

6 AM Workshirts has both a black and white long sleeve with a women's shirt coming out spring of 2018.
