OC Coyotes Women vs. Capilano University

The Okanagan College Coyotes womens' basketball team competed against Capilano University and Douglas College in Vancouver recently.

The Coyotes gave a good fight in their first game against Capilano but it wasn't enough to claim a victory.

Megan Admussen-Blair sat out most of the game with the flu, but stepped onto the court in the fourth quarter and hit two three-pointers.

Danielle Ruocco tied the game with a free throw in the final 30 seconds and sent the game into overtime.

But it wasn't enough to take the game. The final score was 67-62 in overtime for Capilano.

“It was a hard fought game with a lot of players competing hard, despite being sick," stated coach Andrew Gini.

OC Coyotes Women vs. Douglas College

In the second game, the Coyotes faced off against Douglas College, 2016 Provincial Finalists. Again, the women were down a few players but still led the first half, 30-26.

However, they were not able to sustain that same energy against Douglas in the second half.

The OC women ended up falling short by nine points with a final score of 69-60 for Douglas College.

OC Coyotes Men vs. Capilano College

The OC Coyotes mens' basketball team played against Capilano College on Friday evening in Penticton for the first time.

Capilano gave a strong, athletic performance led the first half by 10 points with, 46-36.

In the second half, the Coyotes fought back relentlessly, scoring 57 points, and taking the win with a 93-81 victory for OC.

Top scorer and Pharmasave Player of the game, Matt Lafontaine, led the charge with 32 points.

“We had a great second half, we talked about being more responsible on defense and communicating as team on the offensive and defensive end. Our focus as always is to have our defensive end lead to an offensive out-burst. Tonight this was certainly led by Matt, who shot the ball very well and played with emotion and intensity. I am proud of what we accomplished as a team in the second half,” stated Coach Dino Gini.

OC Coyotes Men vs. Douglas College

The Coyotes played their second game against elite PACWEST team, Douglas College.

In the first quarter, Douglas College led by one point, but by half time Douglas had claimed 13 points.

In the end, Douglas College took the victory with a score of 102-80.

“Hats off to Douglas - they shot the ball well as a team, and simply were the better team today. We’ll learn and get better but it was a great weekend for us and as a team we continue to improve. Thank you to Capilano University and Douglas College for great games,” stated Coach Gini.

Top scorer and Pharmasave Player of the Game for OC Coyotes was Davide Ciancio with 17 points.
