Some of the world’s best curlers will be coming to the Kelowna Curling Club (KCC) in October.

The 2018 World Mixed Curling Championship will be held in Kelowna in from Oct. 13-20, the first time the event has ever been to Canada.

This is only the fourth edition of this event in general, but it has attracted 37 of the World Curling Federation’s 60 member associations in that time.

“We are delighted to take our world mixed event across the Atlantic for the first time,” said Kate Caithness, president of the World Curling Federation.

“This event is proving to be a first-class development tool for our established and emerging Member Associations.”

The KCC’s 12 sheets make it one of the biggest clubs in Canada, along with Red Deer and Royal Caledonia in Regina.

The club has previously held the 1986 World Women’s Curling Championships and the 2002 World Junior Curling Championships.

“This unique event allows unlimited number of countries to enter straight into a world championship,” said Jock Tyre, GM of the KCC.

“The Kelowna Curling Club is proud to be hosting countries from every continent and is looking forward to being an ambassador for the city and province.”

Team Canada lost to Team Scotland in the finals of the 2017 World Mixed Curling Championships, which were held in Champéry, Switzerland.
