The game of golf is going to undergo some pretty significant changes in 2019.

Starting on Jan. 1, 2019, the new rules of golf will come into effect, aimed at making the game easier and quicker for amateurs, especially newcomers.

The process to modernize the rules began in 2012 and has gone through a number of evaluation and feedback periods.

“We’re thankful for the golfers, administrators and everyone in the game who took the time to provide us with great insight and thoughtful feedback,” said Thomas Pagel, USGA senior director of rules.

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce the new Rules ahead of their education and implementation.”
