Kelowna’s midget rec girls team came home with gold medals from the Alley’s Tournament of Hearts this weekend.

The Kelowna Midget Female Rockets only lost one game in the round robin, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Prince George team.

They were able to get revenge in the semi-finals, however, knocking off that same Prince George team 4-0.

That booked the Kelowna girls a ticket to the finals, where they did not disappoint.

The game, against the undefeated Grand Prairie team, was a hard fought, rough game that saw several Kelowna girls leave the game with injuries.

Tied at zero through regulation, the game went to overtime and the door was blown open for Kelowna after Dakota Roy drew a penalty early in the extra frame.

On the powerplay, Carmen Desautels was able to slide home a rebound to give Kelowna the 1-0 win and the gold medal.

Goalie, Lonnica McKinney, gave her team every chance to win, posting back to back shutouts in the semi-finals and championship game.
