It didn’t take Dan Lambert long to land on his feet.

After being relieved of his head coaching duties by the Rochester Americans nearly two weeks ago, Lambert was scooped up by the Spokane Chiefs on Monday.

Lambert, who led the Kelowna Rockets to a WHL Championship in 2015, becomes the 12th full-time head coach in Chiefs’ history.

“I am absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to work for this organization, the Brett family and Scott Carter,” Lambert said. “I’m looking forward to meeting the players and working with the young talent on our squad. We’re going to grow and improve together, and I’m excited to get started.”

On Tuesday, the 47-year-old Lambert was introduced to the media in Spokane.

“We are extremely excited to bring a person of Dan’s caliber into our organization,” Chiefs’ General Manager Scott Carter added. “He fits well with our organization’s philosophy of bringing in good character people with a family first mentality.”

The Chiefs also introduced someone else with Kelowna ties to the media on Tuesday.

Kelowna native Jack Finley, who was the sixth overall pick in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft, signed a Standard Player Agreement, committing to the WHL.

“This has all just been an unbelievable experience,” Finley said. “It feels like a family here. I couldn’t be happier.”

It’s unlikely that Finley will see much, if any, time with the Chiefs this season, but he’ll be a big part of Lambert’s roster down the road.
