Another West Kelowna Warrior has committed to play hockey at a top-tier American school.
Defenseman Jake Harrison announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on Monday, where he will play for the Wolverines hockey team.
The 18-year-old will join the NCAA Div. 1 program for the start of the 2019-20 season.
“Jake has been a great player here from day one,” said Rylan Ferster, coach of the Warriors. “He played key minutes for us when we won the RBC Cup and that hasn’t changed over the last two seasons. His competitive nature is what makes him special.”
Harrison has played 164 regular season games in the BCHL, scoring 18 goals for a total of 83 points.
The West Kelowna native has also played in 39 playoff games, including that RBC Cup run with the Warriors in 2016.
He'll be joining Wolverines team that is currently coached by B.C. native Mel Pearson, who has spent his entire 36-year coaching career between Michigan and Michigan Tech.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to head to Michigan and pursue my hockey career and academic career with the Wolverines,” he said.
For now, Harrison has other things to worry about, as he and his teammates start their first-round playoff series in Trail on Friday night.
