The Kelowna Rockets played a rare afternoon game to celebrate Family Day in BC.

The US Division leading Seattle Thunderbirds proved to be a formidable opponent holding a 3-2 lead going into the third. In the final frame the sticks got hot for Kelowna Rockets firing three unanswered goals for a 6-3 win.

Calvin Thurkauf has been on fire, with 17 points in his last 13 games, 7 of those goals.  With the two goals he scored today against Seattle, that gives him 19 points in 14 games and first place in goal scoring for the Rockets with 27 goals, one more than leading point getter Kole Lind.

Also scoring for the Rockets was Leif Mattson with his 6th, Reid Gardiner (7th), Carsen Twarynski (11th) and Nick Merkley with his 17th.

Seattle went 1 for 2 on the man advantage while Kelowna was 0 for 3 in a very tame family friendly game.  Only 18 total minutes called for the game, pretty good when you consider that the Kelowna Rockets lead the WHL in penalty minutes.

The Rockets play next at home on Friday and Saturday taking on the Spokane Chiefs and  the Prince George Cougars.
