The Kelowna Rockets roster racked up some points on Wednesday night, with a 10-1 blowout win over the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Oil Kings have had a tough season, especially against B.C. division teams. They lost to the Kamloops Blazers 7-0 the night before.

Captain Rodney Southam netted his second WHL hat trick on Wednesday, with a beautiful goal in the second period and two in the third.

Other goal scorers for the Rockets included Nick Merkley, Carsen Twarynski, Tomas Soustal, Dillon Dube, Lucas Johansen, Kyle Topping and Kole Lind. Defenceman James Hilsendager converted for four assists on the night, and 21-year-old Reid Gardiner also had a good showing, nearly scoring on multiple opportunities.

Davis Koch earned the Oil Kings lone goal in the loss, and it only fueled the Rockets' fire as they went on to score six goals in the following eight minutes.

Brodan Salmond earned the win in net, making 14 saves. The Oil Kings netminders, Patrick Dea and Josh Dechaine, faced 53 Rockets' shots on the night. Dea allowed eight goals before Dechaine replaced him and gave up the final two.

Now the Rockets will hit the road for three games this weekend, Friday in Kamloops, Saturday in Seattle and a 5 p.m. start on Sunday in Spokane.
