Former Rocket Leon Draisaitl has officially won the Art Ross Trophy

After hitting the 50-goal and 100-point mark for the first time last season, Leon Draisaitl found a way to bring his game to another level in 2019-20.

The former Kelowna Rocket scored 43 goals and added 67 assists for 110 points in just 71 games before the NHL put the season on hold due to COVID-19.

He led the league in points, 13 higher than his teammate Connor McDavid, who was in second place.

Today, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the regular season, which means that Draisaitl is the official winner of the Art Ross Trophy for most points during the season.

Draisaitl is the second Rocket to win the award after Jamie Benn won it in 2014-15.

The Cologne, Germany native will have a chance to add to his trophy case this summer as well, as he’ll be a frontrunner for the Hart Trophy League, which is awarded to the NHL’s most valuable player.

It’s hard to predict when the NHL awards that are voted on will be handed out since the playoff could be played late into the summer.
