Nearly three years ago, Madison Bowey won a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals.
Since then, it’s been a bit of a rough go for the former Kelowna Rockets captain.
The following season, Bowey scored his first NHL goal with the Caps, but struggled otherwise in 33 games with the defending champions.
He was traded to the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline, where he played 70 games over two seasons before COVID-19 hit.
Bowey then found himself on the outside of the league looking in to start this shortened pandemic season, as he was one of many NHL-quality players who was left looking for a contract.
Now, he has a second chance to get back into the big leagues, however, as the San Diego Gulls announced Bowey had signed a professional tryout with the club late last week.
The Gulls are the AHL affiliate for the Anaheim Ducks.

The 25-year-old got his first taste of pre-season action on Thursday in a game that saw another former Rocket, Kyle Topping, score a goal.
Bowey will be hoping to earn a roster spot and an official contract with the Gulls ahead of the team’s Feb. 5 season opener.
In 259 career games with Kelowna, Bowey scored 172 points and captained the team to a WHL championship.
