After a quiet summer, Prospera Place is going to be buzzing with activity this week.

Around 160 players will begin Kelowna Rockets rookie camp today, looking to make a good impression on the team’s coaches and management.

It’s one of the largest rookie camps that the franchise has had in recent years and only a handful of players will get a coveted invite to main camp.

"It's our biggest camp in about six years," said Lorne Frey, assistant GM and director of player personnel.

"Normally we only have 90 to 100 kids at this camp, but we're very excited to have a lot of good young players coming."

Camp starts today, but the on-ice sessions won’t begin until Tuesday before wrapping up on Friday.

While there are more than 150 players in attendance, this week marks the first chance for the Rockets brass to look at their 2019 bantam draft class, which includes Nolan Floamand and Jayden Joly.

Once rookie camp finishes on Friday, the team’s main camp gets going with registration later that day before the on-ice sessions start on Saturday.
