It may have been a closer game than the Kelowna Rockets wanted or expected, but a win’s a win and it’s a nice way to end 2019.

Liam Kindree scored his seventh goal of the season, and third in the past two games, with just three seconds left in overtime to lead the Rockets to a 3-2 win over the Prince George Cougars on Monday night.

Kelowna had a 2-0 lead early thanks to goals from Kaedan Korczak and Mark Liwiski.

Korczak buried his sixth of the season on the powerplay, while Liwiski doubled the lead with an unassisted effort just 97 seconds later.

However, Cole Moberg brought the Cougars back to within one in the final minute of the first frame.

From then until overtime, there was just one more goal and it came off the stick of Prince George’s Connor Bowie in the middle frame.

The Rockets, who have had their injury problems this year, had another scare in the third period when Matthew Wedman went down after a collision with Reid Perepeluk.

Perpeluk was assessed a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct, while Wedman did manage to return to the game.

Roman Basran got the final Rockets win of the decade with a 15 save effort.

Kelowna begins 2020 with a home game against the Victoria Royals on Friday, Jan. 3.
