Kelowna Rockets' defenceman Cal Foote has been selected 14th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The native Denver, Colorado, Foote played 71 games for the Rockets during the 2016-2017 season recording 57 points (6 goals, 51 assists).

According to the NHL Central Scouting Foote is a:

"Two-way defenseman with high hockey IQ in all three zones. Almost never out of position on a play."

Foote was originally ranked 12th amongst North American skaters for the 2017 draft.

Foote becomes the eighth Kelowna Rockets player in team history to be drafted in the first round. Six of those eight have been defencemen. Most recently, Lucas Johansen was selected 28th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

"It means a ton to me, I've worked my entire life for this moment but I'm excited to get back to work in August with the Rockets," Cal said when asked what it means to him to be drafted.

Congratulations and good luck Cal!
