The Kelowna Rockets got off the schneid with a 2-1 win over the Prince George Cougars on Sunday night.

It was the Rockets ninth win in 14 games so far this season, but more importantly it put an end to the team’s three-game losing streak.

Kelowna jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period courtesy of goals from Alex Swetlikoff and David Kope.

Swetlikoff’s fourth goal of the campaign came on the powerplay, while David Kope finished off a nice passing play with Trevor Wong to notch his sixth tally of the year.

Majid Kaddoura finally answered back for the Cougars in the final frame, but it was only enough to break Cole Schwebius’ shutout, as they couldn’t beat the 19-year-old goalie again.

Schwebius was impressive all night long, making 30 saves to secure his fifth win of the season, while Taylor Gauthier turned aside 23 of 25 shots for the Cougars.

The Rockets will host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place tonight before finishing up the season with another home game against the Victoria Royals on Wednesday.
