Kris Mallette will be heading to Alberta next week.

The Kelowna Rockets bench boss has been added to the coaching staff for Canada’s National Men’s U18 Team’s summer development camp.

He will replace Dennis Williams, who was promoted to an assistant coach on Canada’s World Junior Team on Wednesday.

This will be a bit of a chance for redemption for Mallette, who was named an assistant coach for Team Canada Red at the 2020 World U17 Hockey Challenge.

Unfortunately, he never got to serve in that role, as the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The summer camp will take place from July 25 until Aug. 4 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation near Calgary.

There are 45 players invited to the camp, which includes 26 forwards, 15 defencemen and four goalies.

Mallette is the 11th head coach in Rockets history and has led the team to a 15-7-2-1 record since being named to the role in March 2020.
