One veteran out and one veteran in, the Kelowna Rockets have parted ways with Jackson DeSouza in a trade with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Rockets will receive 20-year-old defenceman Kayden Sadhra-Kang as a result of the trade.

“A veteran in the league, Sadhra-Kang will provide additional leadership to our younger defencemen,” said Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton.

DeSouza was drafted 84th overall by the Rockets in 2018 and has since appeared in 151 career games with the club.

The 20-year-old has accumulated eight goals and 30 assists in his time with Kelowna, adding on a goal in eight playoff appearances.

Desouza has appeared in 15 games this season and has not played since the team's Nov. 13 game in Victoria.

“Jackson asked to be moved, it took a while, but we were able to accommodate his request,” added Hamilton.

“We thank him for his time as a Rocket and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Sadhra-Kang has appeared in 27 games this season for the Wheat Kings.

The defenceman has accumulated one goal and seven assists this season with a plus-six rating and 30 penalty minutes.

Coming in at 6’4” and 208 pounds, Sadhra-Kang adds size to the Rockets’ roster and he is expected to be with the team this weekend.

The Richmond native will wear number 27 and be joining Ben Thornton, who was also recently acquired from the Wheat Kings.

The Rockets will not have to wait long to play DeSouza as the team will hit the road soon for a Prairies road trip.

Kelowna is scheduled to play the Wheat Kings on Dec. 13.
