There’s a new leader in town.

Ahead of their season opener against the Kamloops Blazers, the Kelowna Rockets unveiled the 23rd captain in franchise history on Friday.

Defenseman Cal Foote will wear the C for the Rockets this season, taking over the role from Rodney Southam.

It was also announced on Friday that James Hilsendager, Gordie Ballhorn and Dillon Dube will serve as alternate captains.

The 18-year-old Foote is entering his third season with the Rockets after being drafted in the second round of the WHL Bantam Draft in 2013.

Back in June, Foote was selected 14th overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

That made him the highest Rockets draft pick since Luke Schenn and Tyler Myers went 5th and 12th respectively back in 2008.

Foote has played in 142 regular season games with the Rockets, collection 14 goals and 79 assists for 93 points.

He’s also added a pair of goals and 14 more assists for 16 points in 32 post-season games with the club.

The Englewood, Colorado native will be added to a storied list of players to wear the C for the Rockets.
