Here's the recap of Kelowna United and Junior Heat results from the weekend of June 10th and June 11th.
All games were played on Sunday, June 11th, with the exception of one.
KU U13 Boys Warriors (Yann) – 3 KYSA U13 Boys G - 1
The last game of the regular season was a home game for the Warriors against Kamloops G. The boys had good ball possession and kept the ball mainly in their half. 15 min into the game, Bradley Neal booted the ball into the net, coming in off a corner kick by Jack Millikin. Ten minutes later, Bradley Neal gave a through ball to Mikey Kraus, who scored. Kamloops replied with one goal just before half time. In the second half, the Warriors looked a little tired, but stayed strong and kept moving the ball. Nikhil Filatow converted a penalty kick for the 3-1 win over Kamloops.
KU U13 Boys Team Arruda – 1 Salmon Arm U13 Boys - 0
Kelowna United U13 Boys Team Arruda dominated the 1st half with ball possession and excellent passing. Multiple shots on both Salmon Arm and Kelowna nets, but great goal keeping by Damiano Poloni kept the game at 0-0. Start of the 2nd half, Salmon Arm attacked, got a free kick but missed the net. Kelowna countered with Maxim Storozhuk assisting the goal by Ethan Warnes! Kelowna was further challenged in the 2nd half with an injury and no subs but held on their lead playing 1 man short for 12 minutes! Great teamwork, strong defense and goaltending gave Kelowna the win!
KU/Junior Heat U13 Girls – 3 Kelowna United U13 Girls W - 1 (Played on Saturday)
KU/Junior Heat U13 Girls – 2 Kelowna United U13 Girls C - 0
The Junior Heat U13 girls finished the regular season strong with 2 wins over the weekend against the Kelowna United Teams bringing them to an unofficial second place finish heading into the playdowns. In Saturday’s game against KU W, Olivia Lawrie started off the first half with a 1-0 lead before KU tied the score at the half. Olivia scored early in the second half on a pass from Anna Hopley and Tatum Grundy finished off the lead scoring the third goal for a 3-1 win. On Sunday morning, Paige Keeley brought the Heat to a 1-0 lead in the first half with Shae Taylor on a pass from Olivia Lawrie taking the ball to the net in the second half. Heat finished the game with a 2-0 win over KU C.
KU/Junior Heat U14 Boys - 4 Penticton U14 Boys - 0
The Junior Heat U14 Boys played Penticton on Saturday winning 4-0 with goals from Aaron Brears (2), Carson Martin and Pietro Arrigoni. The Boys have continued with their unbeaten streak in soccer since the commencement of this season. During the last 3 games they have shut out their opponents and since late May, 2017, they have been able to show a strong offensive and defensive force. On June 4, 2017, the Heat played against Kamloops and won 5-0 with goals scored by Aaron Brears, Ethan Ramchuk, Carson Martin, Ethan De Kruif and Pietro Arrigoni. The Heat played the KU-14 boys team in late May and scored 7 unanswered goals. The goaltending of Zach Shields and Kaden Kiewitz has proven to be solid in the past 3 games allowing no goals by their opponents.
KU/Junior Heat U15 Boys – 7 Kelowna United U15 Boys - 1
The regular season closed with the two U15 teams meeting each other for the third time. The rivalry is heated and both teams played with passion and determination. Junior Heat goals scored by Chris West (1), Ethan Kersche (2) and Justin Matte (4). Kelowna United’s Gavin Lawlor made sure his team was on the score sheet with a perfectly executed penalty shot. All the boys are to be congratulated for their hard work and excellent sportsmanship this season.
KU U15 Girls (Greenhough) – 3 Shuswap U13 Girls – 0
The KU U-15 Girls (Greenhough) finished off the regular season with a convincing 3-0 win over Shuswap at the Parkinson Rec Center this past weekend.
The KU Girls took control from the start of the game, demonstrating excellent ball control and movement, with most of the action in the Shuswap end for the first half. Ashley Eisenkrein bagged her first goal of a hat trick ten minutes into the half. When the teams came out for the second half, there was a noticeable shift in momentum. Never a pushover, Shuswap played with a lot more energy and much of the action was in the Kelowna end of the field. In spite of this, Ashlyn Eisenkrein got her second goal of the game 28 minutes into the half after taking a nice lead pass from Sophia Millikin. Their second goal lit a fire under the Kelowna girls and the momentum shifted back to KU. Ashlyn Eisenkrein scored her third goal of the game with a few minutes left on the clock. Tayshja Clark had to make a great save in the dying seconds of the game after a scramble in front of her net to preserve her shutout.
