Some young baseball players got to show off their skills Sunday afternoon at Elks Stadium.
Kelowna Minor Baseball hosted a free Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for youth in the area. This event is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball and is meant to help kids have an opportunity to compete for free in core baseball/softball skills.

The kids were eager and ready to go Sunday afternoon and you could see the energy on the field as they warmed up. The boys and girls were split into four age divisions, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14, with the intent to name a champion in each of the three competitions for the eight girls’ and boys’ divisions.
Along with the All-Around Champion in each age and gender group, these winners will advance to the sectional level in Vancouver. Every young player at the stadium had the chance to go through four levels of competition leading up to Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.
This was Kelowna Minor Baseball’s inaugural year hosting the event, and they had over 100 kids registered to compete.
