Tyrell Goulbourne underwent surgery Friday night for a laceration to his calf that he suffered the game. The 20-year-old player’s calf muscle was cut by a skate when he went into the boards with a Portland player during game five of the WHL Western Conference Final.

Goulbourne had a successful surgery at Kelowna General Hospital on Friday night, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

“It’s a big loss for our club but we are pleased Tyrell will make a full recovery,” said Kelowna Rockets president/GM Bruce Hamilton. “I’d like to thank the work of our team doctors and the team at Kelowna General Hospital for their exceptional work.”

Doctors will re-evaluate Goulbourne on a week by week basis, and it’s unknown how long the forward will be out of the line-up.

The Rockets won the game 2-1 against the Portland Winterhawks in overtime on Friday, taking a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. The two teams will face off again in Portland on Sunday, with a game seven if necessary in Kelowna on Tuesday.
