It was a significant accomplishment for a Kelowna golfer.

Samantha Richdale shot a 5-under 31 on the back nine and carded her second straight round of 68 to finish second in the Island Resort Championship in Harris, Michigan on Sunday.

Richdale’s 54-hole total of 207 was just one stroke back of Sweden’s Dani Holmquist. Holmquist shot a 2-under 70 on the final round at the Sweetgrass Golf Club, winning her first Symetra Tour title.

Her runner-up finish was the best of the season for Richdale, who earned $11,506 and moved into 16th place overall on the money list at $25,430 in 11 tournaments this season. The Kelowna Secondary School graduate’s previous best finish was on the Symetra Tour this season, where she finished in fourth place at the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial back in April.

The Illinois State University grad also placed eighth at the Mission Health Wellness Classic in mid-May. Rookie Brooke Henderson of Smith Falls, Ontario, shot a final round 67 to finish at 8-under for the tournament and take third place.
