Kelowna Rockets Acquire Swiss Forward

The Rockets have a new player following the annual CHL import draft on Tuesday.

The Rockets picked left wing Calvin Thurkauf of Switzerland for their second European import. Kelowna picked Thurkauf 59th out of 60 in the first of two rounds of the annual draft.

This 18-year-old, 6’1” player is a left hand shot who played at the junior A elite level in Switzerland last season as well as in Team Switzerland’s Under-18 program. He played 38 games with his club team in Zug, Switzerland, scoring 11 goals with 10 assists and 54 penalty minutes. Thurkauf also played 32 games with the Swiss Under-18 team, with four goals, nine assists, and 68 penalty minutes.

Thurkauf is a native of Zug, Switzerland, and he joins Czech Republic forward Tomas Soustal as the Rockets’ two import players.

The new Rocket was the 118th player ranked by NHL Central Scouting among European players at the NHL Entry Draft.
