Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse is quickly establishing himself as one of the fastest men in the world.

De Grasse won bronze medal in the men’s 100-metre final at the 2015 IIAF World Championships in Beijing on Sunday.

The 20-year-old from Markham, Ontario finished with a personal best time of 9.92 seconds to finish in a tie for third with American Trayvon Bromell.

It is the first medal for a Canadian sprinter in the 100-metre at the World Championships since Bruny Surin won a silver medal in 1999.

The fastest man in the world was nearly dethroned in the race.

Jamaican star Usain Bolt edged out American Justin Gatlin by 0.01 seconds to defend his title. Bolt has won the gold medal in the 100-metre at each of the past three World Championships.

The bronze medal adds to De Grasse’s medal count this summer. He won gold medals in both the 100-metre and 200-metre at the Pan Am Games in Toronto in July.
