The Kelowna Chiefs had their eight-game unbeaten streak broken on Friday as the Summerland Steam knocked off the visitors 5-1 in Kootenay International Junior B Hockey League play in Summerland.

Captain Ryan Lawson notched the only Kelowna goal in a 1-1 first period, but that was the extent of the Chiefs’ scoring as the Steam limited their opponents to 25 shots while scoring their five goals in 32 shots at losing goaltender Brady Lenardon.

Jack Mills scored three times to lead the Steam, while Alex Williams and Cole Williams added singles to improve their team’s Okanagan Division record to 10-8.

The division’s second-place Chiefs dropped to 9-4-2-2-1 for 20 points, the same as the Steam, who have played one more game.

Aiming to get back to their winning ways on Saturday, the Chiefs will play host to the Kamloops Storm (27 points) at the Rutland Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
