The West Kelowna Warriors scored five unanswered goals in the first period on the way to a 9-4 B.C. Hockey League win over the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters on Friday.

Jonathan Desbiens led the onslaught with a hat trick performance, while the rest of the scoring was shared by six different Warriors — Brett Mennear, Kyle Marino, Connor Sodergren, Liam Blackburn, Quin Foreman and Reed Gunville.

Harlan Orr, Nick Hoalloran, Scott Kienan and Max Newton replied or the Smoke Eaters, who trailed 8-3 going into the third period.

Despite the lopsided score, Warriors goaltender, Keelan Williams, had to stop 38 shots for the win. West Kelowna fired 52 shots at the Trail mix of Bailey MacBurnie and Linden Marshall.

The win moved the Warriors into a second-place tie with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, who dropped a 10-5 decision to the Vernon Vipers on Friday.

The Silverbacks, with three games in hand on the West Kelowna, will play host to the Warriors on Saturday.
