Jonathan Desbiens scored his team-leading 31st and 32nd goals of the season, while adding a pair of assists in the West Kelowna Warriors’ 7-1 B.C. Hockey League win over the host Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday.

In the first of seven straight games on the road, the second-place Warriors stretched their Interior Division lead on the third-place Salmon Arm Silverbacks to four points. The ’Backs, still with two games in hand, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Vernon Vipers on Friday.

Desbiens, with 10 goals and nine assists in the past 10 games, opened the scoring against the Capitals at 4:02 of the first period, while sparking a four-goal, third-period  Warriors outburst with his second just 40 seconds into the final frame.

Rylan Yaremko also scored for the Warriors in the 2-0 first period, while Bryan Basilico traded goals with the Caps’ Kade Kehoe in the second to make it 3-1 going into the third period. Garrett Foster, Connor Sodergren and Tyler Anderson rounded out the scoring for West Kelowna.

Despite the lopsided score, the Warriors were outshot 36-27 by the Capitals, who managed just the one goal on player-of-the-game, Matthew Greenfield.

The Warriors continue their three-game weekend road trip in Powell River on Saturday and are in Chilliwack on Sunday.
