Vees Open BCHL Series With Win Over West Kelowna

The Penticton Vees scored three unanswered goals in the third period to break open low-scoring affair and defeat the visiting West Kelowna Warriors 5-1 in the opening game of their B.C. Hockey League Interior Division final on Friday.

Powerplay goals by Tyson Jost and Owen Sillinger capped the Vees’ final-period outburst that was sparked by Easton Brodzinski’s goal at 2:50 of the third.

Scott Conway staked the Vees to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first period while Connor Sodergren got the Warriors to within one at 11:52 of the second period.

Matthew Greenfield took the loss in goal for the Warriors, giving up the five Vees goals on 24 shots before being replaced by Keelan Williams for the final 4:48 of the game. Zach Driscoll earned the win in the Penticton net, stopping 18 of 19 shots.

The second game of the best-of-seven Interior Division final is set for Saturday at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Pentiction beginning at 7 p.m.

Tht third game between the division’s first-place Vees (100 points) and the second-place Warriors (79 points) will be played at Royal LePage Place on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. A fourth game goes on Tuesday, also at Royal LePage.
