The Kelowna Skating Club made a deep impression on the ice at the Super Series Victoria Day competition in Surrey on the weekend.

Twenty-seven members of the KSC displayed their strength and depth at the first event of the new season, winning 15 medals — highlighted by Emma Bulawka’s gold-medal performance in the novice girls division.

The 13-year-old claimed top spot with a personal-best score of 108.14 points, despite opening with a fifth place in the short program. A clean free program that included three triple jumps vaulted her to first place overall.

Another highlight occurred at the pre-novice level, as 12-year-old Daria Carr won both segments of group 1 and finished with a score of 91.98 points, 18 points higher than the second-place finisher.

Kelowna’s Vienna Harwood won group 2 of pre-novice, while Maya Rose skated to the silver medal in group 3.

The KSC also showed strength at the lower levels, as Kiera Atkins and Katie Jones finished second and third respectively in group 2 of pre-juvenile girls under-11 competition.

At the juvenile level, 10-year-old Malayna Lesko had a personal-best score of 30.28 points to take the gold in group 1, while Emily Sales finished third in group 2.

Olivia Gran landed six triple jumps to finish second in the junior free program, followed by Mckenna Colthorp, who claimed the bronze. A day earlier, Colthorp and Gran finished second and third respectively in the short program segment.

Rounding out the medal wins were Gabrielle Jugnauth (silver, Star 4 girls), Rachel Pettitt (bronze, senior, short), and Lauren Viau (bronze, Star 4 girls).
